  1. This whole poem has an ache of having taken Dad for granted which hits me where it hurts. Especially the line about speaking indifferently to him.

    1. I wonder whether kids can every really understand, until they’re older, and probably until they have kids of their own, how much their parents sacrificed for them, out of love (whether that was expressed well or not).

      What the poem really hammers home for me is how messy love can be, and that it doesn’t always manifest in the way you’d expect.
